Laid off while on maternity leave?

I have been on leave since 9/19 but didn't have the baby until 10/13. I left work early because I had preclamsyia. I planned on going back to work in December or January but I got a call today from my boss and apparently the company has downsized and along with a few other people, I have been laid off. I am in such shock that I really don't know what to think right now. I was with the company for over 2 years and have always been an exceptional employee. Can they do this to me? Lay me off while I am on leave? They said I can collect unemployment but how can I collect if I am not able to go to work...according to unemployment you must be "ready and willing" to go to work. I am suppose to collect disability but they haven't even send my papers in. I really don't know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I can not go back to work becuase I had a c-section and I was told by my doctor that I would have to wait 8 weeks to go back.
I am on unpaid maternity leave and the company isnt really all that big, and plus with all the downsizing, they probably only have less than 10 employees.
