Default Why do owners of homes in fire-raged parts of California insist that their...

...homes be built in areas ? ..
where fires are so prevalent?
...
are they that desperate to live in so-called exclusive areas? What's the point of owning property when you know it can be destroyed in the twinkling of an eye?
These people don't seen too bright.

(Please make no comparisons to Louisiana and he devastation because of Katrina. This question is about California. Period. We're talking about so-called exclusive areas where people can afford millions of dollars to pick a safe location.)

Katrina is a good case in point.

People are not thinking in terms of business continuity planning.

Business continuity planning means assessing the threat be it hurricane or fire. The planning that follows would suggest mitigation strategies that may include not building in tornado prone areas or building in such a way as to mitigate the risk. For example California has a seismic driven building code.

But obviously there is no planning going on. People are caught with no plan to avoid disaster. They have no place to go. Their valuable papers are lost. In some cases families have lost touch with each other.

None of this is rocket science. Lots of websites about disasters and disaster preparedness so the information is out there.

You can bet that the response to the fires is as good as it is because there has been planning for a major earthquake.

there aren't that many place to build for the amount of people living there. Also is the cost,a lot of these people are not rich celebrities and if they are they can afford it.
