Goolsbee, the Obama advisor in question, has objected to the way his remarks were characterized in that memo, by DeMora, calling it "ham handed.

He was speaking in reference to trade in general, and not specifically about NAFTA.

And he was not speaking on behalf of the Obama campaign at the time.

It's clear from the statements Obama has made, that he understands both the importance of good international trade relations, and the importance of protecting the interests of American workers.

This is an entirely reasonable position, he is at least as credible in it as Clinton is, and far more so than McCain.
