Default Can you draw unemployment if you are self-employed?

My dad lives in TN and is a self-employed carpenter. He recently ran out of work a few months ago and with the housing market the way it is, sees no work in the future for quite a while. Is there anyway that he can draw unemployment? He is in his 50's and has had his own business since he was very young. So, he has never worked for anyone else but himself. Are there any options out there to help him with his impending bills? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
